The Enguarde is a smoke alarm concept designed to be easily mountable and removable in order for easier battery replacement. By allowing the user to slide the whole smoke alarm out of its mounting unit, the smoke alarm can be brought down to ground level to replace the battery instead of having the user up on a chair or stepladder trying to change the battery well above the ground.
For this project we had to accommodate an existing smoke alarm circuit into a new body. This meant that a full scale prototype of the smoke alarm was needed in order to test fitting. The model seen below was made entirely using 3D printing.
